Frozen Zanskar River

Frozen Zanskar River painted using Acrylic Colours

Zanskar River is a tributary of the Indus. In winters the road to Zanskar is closed by snow on the high passes. Then the only overland route is by walking along the frozen Zanskar river. This multi-day hike is now sold as an adventure activity called the Chadar (‘ice sheet’) Trek.

A landscape scene of Frozen River flowing through barren mountains is painted entirely using acrylic colours and knives. Brushes are used only to paint the blue sky. Wonderful use of blue and white to paint the frozen water of the river. Brilliant mixing of black, brown and white to paint the barren mountains.
